Weherahena Temple                  Weherahena Viharaya is situated in kakanadura, Matara.It's about 7km away from matara town. Weherahena is a popular temple among buddhist though is nothing historical significant in this temple. infront view of the temple The story of this temple starts during the early 20th century. It is said that Rev. Parawahera Rewatha thero was sent to this area as a punishment. In that days this area was very rural and 1/2 acre od think jungle with a bodhi tree. with the instruction of rewatha thero with the support of the villagers this temple was constructed. And also he wanted to create a tunnel with the stories of ummagga jathakaya. With the help of Angarika Dharmapala in 1993 they kept the foundation stone for the tunnel.
