Weherahena Temple Weherahena Viharaya is situated in kakanadura, Matara.It's about 7km away from matara town. It is said that Rev. Parawahera Rewatha thero was sent to this area as a punishment. In that days this area was very rural and 1/2 acre od think jungle with a bodhi tree. with the instruction of rewatha thero with the support of the villagers this temple was constructed. And also he wanted to create a tunnel with the stories of ummagga jathakaya. With the help of Angarika Dharmapala in 1993 they kept the foundation stone for the tunnel.
